Singer/songwriter Erykah Badu and her boyfriend Jay Electronica have welcomed their first child together! The couple’s baby girl was born today, February 1st, at “1:30 p.m. exactly,” according to the proud papa who, along with Erykah, provided updates throughout the day via Twitter. Sharing that their daughter had arrived, Jay writes,

“It’s the happiest day of my life.”

While no other details — including a name — have been released, per Jay’s updates, Erykah, 37, delivered her third child naturally. “My daughter is ready. Labor has begun. Everybody stand back. No hospitals. No doctors. No medicine. We’re waiting on midwife to show up,” revealed the excited dad earlier today. From the sound of things, Jay, along with Erykah’s 4 ½-year-old daughter Puma Rose had things under control! “I’m doing foot squeezes and foot rubs when the contractions hit. Puma is rubbing her hands.”

A few hours after the delivery, Erylah tweeted, “I can’t believe it’s over. Home birth, no painkillers, about five hours, she was a little past due date, but I didn’t mind waiting. Breath.”

The new baby joins Puma, Erykah’s daughter with rapper D.O.C and Seven Sirius, 11, Erykah’s son with Outkast’s Andre ‘Andre 3000′ Benjamin. The pregnancy was revealed at the Austin City Limits festival in September when Erykah took the stage in a smiley-face tee and showed off a growing belly.

In the first of several planned blogs for Shloer, a sparkling juice drink sold in the UK, Sophie Ellis-Bextor reveals that she’s finding a subsequent pregnancy to be easier than that of her first, with 4 ½-year-old Sonny. “It’s just much less stressful when you know what to expect from your body and your emotions and people don’t fuss around you as much,” the 29-year-old songstress explains. The baby she expects in April did give Sophie a run for her money during the first trimester, however – a state of being she described as “permanently yucky.” She adds,

“Since that stage has passed I feel back to normal and haven’t really had any cravings except one week where all I wanted was beetroot. I’ve since discovered it’s full of folic acid so there you go!”

It’s no coincidence, then, that when it comes to pregnancy and food Sophie has a policy of trusting her instincts. “I think your body is very clever at telling you what it needs,” she explains. “I only buy good quality food so I can avoid any risk of food poisoning and I ration food that I think might be high in mercury like tuna, but generally I go with what I feel as guidelines change all the time.” Sophie takes a similarly laid-back approach to staying active while pregnant. While some expectant moms scale back, Sophie goes full-steam ahead! “One of my top tips would be to try to preserve your social life as much as possible when you’re pregnant as it reminds you that you’re you and not just a pregnant lady,” she says.

“I DJ, run a club night called Modern Love, and have been doing the odd gig too. I’m going to continue to do this as long as possible so I don’t feel defined solely as a pregnant woman. I still have lots of energy so I might as well keep active and happy.”
