Elton John Says He's Helping Eminem Fight Drug Use



Elton John is there for Eminem, who is battling a drug problem.

"I've been helping Eminem over the last 18 months and he's doing brilliantly," John says, reports the British Press Association.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 in the U.K. on Saturday, Sir Elton, 62, who has freely spoken about his own past issues with substance abuse, said: "I'm there if people want my help. If people ask for help you tell them where to go but there's no point advising people if they don't want to do it."

In May, Eminem admitted he'd suffered from a devastating drug addiction that led to him downing as many as 20 Vicodin, Ambien and Valium in a day.

"The numbers got so high," he told Vibe magazine, "I don't even know what I was taking.

Following his first stint in rehab in 2005, the rapper, 37, said he nearly overdosed after an acquaintance gave him unidentified blue pills, which a doctor later told him were actually methadone.

At Lady Gaga's New Year's Eve poolside performance at Miami Beach's Fontainebleau Hotel, the outlandish performer wasn't the only star on display: A gathering of single, Young Hollywood types were in attendance – with some as mesmerized with each other as they were with the singer.

According to an eyewitness, Hayden Panettiere, 20, "was dancing, front and center" with Kevin Connolly, 35. The two were "chatting in the VIP lounge at the pool during the concert, and at the afterparty at LIV [nightclub at the Fontainebleau], they were sitting together. They were chatting all night, and they were very close to each other all evening."

The pair even shared a classic date food: Domino's New Pizza slices together poolside, says the eyewitness.

Lady Gaga performed four songs, including "Bad Romance" from her current album, Fame Monster. Others in the audience included Chace Crawford ("He was singing to Gaga's songs," says a source), blogger Perez Hilton (sporting a head-to-toe floral ensemble), former Desperate Housewives actor Shawn Pyfrom, The Hills' Frankie Delgado, former boybander J.C. Chasez and actress Stacy Keibler.

Bullock ranked No. 1 for box-office star power

Actress Sandra Bullock has nabbed the golden ring for 2009 as the top Hollywood star at the box office, according to a survey of cinema owners.

A poll of hundreds of owners by Quigley Publishing lists the 45-year-old performer as top dog for 2009, raking in $315 million US worldwide for her comedy The Proposal, co-starring Canadian Ryan Reynolds.

She followed that release with the football drama, The Blind Side, which has garnered $193 million in the U.S. and Canada since its Nov. 20 rollout. The film, based on a real-life story, is due to be unspooled in the rest of the world this year.

The only dark spot for Bullock was her other comedy, All About Steve, which was widely panned and only nabbed about $34 million during its short cinema life.

Quigley Publishing said the list, first published in 1932, isn't just about how much a star's movie or movies rakes in but what theatre owners say about who attracts audiences.

Bullock, who first rose to fame with 1994's Speed, is only the eighth woman in the list's history to hold the No. 1 spot.

For 2009, Johnny Depp came in at No. 2 followed by Matt Damon, George Clooney, Robert Downey Jr., Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf and Denzel Washington.
