A charitable group of actors, musicians and activists, including Emile Hirsch and Jessica Biel started their uphill trek to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro today. The expedition is to raise awareness and funds for the global water crisis.

Supporters can follow every step they take on the cause's website and we'll be checking in periodically to see how long it takes one of these celebrities to crack under the pressure.

Adam will supposedly portray a "big brother"-type mentor for the character of Kurt, played by Chris Colfer, who is struggling with being openly gay.

Brittany Murphy's Mother & Husband 'Keeping Each Other Going'

Since Brittany Murphy's sudden death at 32 of an apparent cardiac arrest Dec. 20, her grieving husband Simon Monjack and mother Sharon Murphy have "clung to each other for support."

"Simon is exactly as you would expect someone to be who has just lost the woman he loved. Some days he wants to kill himself, and other days he seems to be coping better," Monjack's mother Linda, a hypnotherapist and counselor in Buckinghamshire, England, tells PEOPLE. "He is distraught. I speak to him everyday, and he is often in tears."

But thanks to his bond with his mother-in-law, the London-born businessman, 39, is surviving, his mother says: "He's very strong, and he's got Sharon. They're very close, and they're keeping each other going."

A Tight Unit
Murphy and her mother were "extraordinarily close," Murphy once told PEOPLE. "She's my earthbound angel."

Even after Murphy and Monjack married in April 2007, Sharon continued to live with her daughter in their Hollywood Hills home.

And quickly, says Linda, the three became a tight unit.

"Sharon witnessed [Simon and Murphy's] love," she says. "She was so happy her daughter had found someone."

And Monjack and Murphy's feelings were real, she continues: "They truly loved each other. I don't think they ever spent more than a few days apart. They were going to start a family this year."

Desperate for Answers
Since Murphy's Dec. 21 autopsy, coroner's office officials are currently awaiting toxicology results that could help them determine the actress's cause of death.

Monjack "is waiting like everyone else for the report from the coroner," a family friend says, "but he anticipates the cause of death will be from natural causes."

In the meantime, Linda says her son is struggling to grasp what could've happened.

"I spoke to them both the day before she died, and everything sounded normal and fine." she says. "It was a three-way conversation, with her laughing and talking to me in the background. Her voice was gravelly because she was recovering from laryngitis, but she seemed in good spirits.

"The next day, when she'd died and he got back from the hospital, I spoke to him, and he was in total and utter shock. I could hear Sharon crying in the background. It was heartbreaking."

"He didn't want the autopsy [in the beginning]," she went on, "for the reason that anybody wouldn't want his nearest and dearest to be cut open. He realized pretty quickly that he had to agree to it, and he's waiting for the results. He wants to know what happened."

For now, all her loved ones can do is wait.

"Simon's life has been shattered," says Linda. "He needs closure to be able to get on with it."

Rumpled sheets expert Sharon Stone calls Meryl Streep 'an unmade bed'

Neither did we. Which is strange, because the "Basic Instinct" actress swears she hasn't had any work done.

"I have had zero, nothing done to myself: no lifting, no Botox, no injectables," she tells Tatler.

"I'm not one of those ladies who won't say their age. I'm very grateful for it. We get different faces as we go through our lives. If you try to hang on to the face you had when you were younger, you end up desperate. I'm happy with the way I am now, with this 51-year-old person."


Regardless of how she looks on the outside, on the inside she thinks that she looks like Meryl Streep.

"I think that's why Meryl Streep is working so much, because she looks like a woman we can all relate to. I look at her and I think, 'I'm chasing my kids, I've moved my parents in with me, I'm coping with food spills -- that looks like me in real life.'

"Meryl looks like an unmade bed, and that's what I look like. To me, that looks true."

Could Tyra Banks Have Ever Filled Oprah's Shoes?

With a media empire steadily growing under her piercing runway-ready gaze, Tyra Banks seemed poised to be the next big talk show diva -- after Oprah Winfrey, of course. The former supermodel, the force behind 'America's Next Top Model,' expanded her brand even more with 'The Tyra Banks Show', now in its fourth season.

But despite winning two Daytime Emmys for the sometimes-zany talker, whose topics centered mostly on women's issues and, uh, Tyra, the California-born media personality announced in late December that she's ending the program in spring 2010. With Oprah's coming vacancy, there were hopes Tyra would expand her show even more in an effort to fill the void left by her mentor.

"I think many turned to Tyra in hopes that she might fill the void that will ultimately be left by Oprah. But let's face the true fact here: There will never be another Oprah," says urban TV personality BJ Coleman, CEO of Coleman Entertainment. He appeared on Tyra's show in early 2008. "No matter how much success Tyra had on daytime television, she nor anyone else could fill Oprah's shoes."

Maybe it's for the best. Without the familiar, older-sister-like warmth of her mentor on another station, Tyra's over-stimulating style would be in danger of becoming downright insufferable. But there's no doubt that the decision to leave her talk show was a strategic business move.

"She's been able to succeed at whatever she puts her mind to, so it was definitely a smart move on her part," Coleman says. "The bad news now is that the only face for black women on the television circuit is Wendy Williams -- and I don't know how good that will be for pop culture."

But the "fierce" media star certainly doesn't plan to slow down. Her mission to uplift young women and celebrate all things that make her great will continue, just not on the small screen.

Tyra is aiming for film. After the show ends, she plans to launch Bankable Studios, a production company focused on movies that project positive images of young women. This direction makes sense for Tyra. There are only so many times on her talk show that she can disguise herself in a fat suit, reveal the true length of her hair, confront old nemesis Naomi Campbell, or gab about the wonders of Tampons.

McGregor, Douglas and Fassbender ready for a 'Knockout'



Gina Carano is getting some help for her big screen debut. Director Steven Soderbergh has cast the mixed martial artist in his new action flick "Knockout" and he's recruited three impressive actors to give the newcomer some support. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ewan McGregor, the legendary Michael Douglas and "Inglourious Basterds'" Michael Fassbender will join Soderbergh's latest production to lend a helping hand.

The trade describes the thriller as centering on a female spy (Carano) who works for a Blackwater-esque security firm and is betrayed by one of her teammates. McGregor is on board as the owner of the firm, Fassbender will portray an untrustworthy British agent and Douglas will be an executive in the company who assists Carano's character in taking the whole mess down.

Dennis Quaid is also in negotiations to join the cast. His role is unclear.

Fassbender is best known for his work in "300," but appears in the acclaimed indie "Fish Tank" later this month. McGregor's next two films are "I Love You Philip Morris" and Roman Polanski's "The Ghost Writer." Douglas just returned to his Oscar-winning role of Gordon "Greed is Good" Gekko in "Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps."

Financed by Relativity, "Knockout" will be distributed domestically by Lionsgate. Production is expected to begin in February in several locations across the globe.

Natalie Portman Has A Fabulous New BF

Natalie Portman has been spotted with a new beau recently. His name is Benjamin Millepied and he has been working as the choreographer for her new movie, Black Swan. The pair have been keeping their lurve hush-hush for a while, but finally made their public debut on New Year's Eve when they attend a party together in Tribeca.

Guess someone got a smooch at midnight!

A close source to the pair say they have actually been a couple since the fall, but that Natalie wanted to wait till they were really serious before showing him off to family and friends. According to the source, she "really likes him."

Let's really hope it lasts, at least until the movie comes out. Nothing like a secret romance to generate some buzz!
