Jon Hamm's Battle with Depression

It’s easy to assume celebrities have perfect lives, but that’s not always the case - and Jon Hamm can attest to that.

The “Mad Men” actor suddenly lost his mother to stomach cancer at the young age of 10, and then 10 years later, his father passed away.

Of these unthinkable losses, Hamm told The Observer, “I was…unmoored by that.”

“I struggled with chronic depression," he continued. “I was in bad shape. I knew I had to get back in school and back in some kind of structured environment and ... continue."

What helped Jon get through? "I was very fortunate to have really good friends in my life whose parents sort of rallied: 'We're gonna help this kid out, because otherwise there's going to be trouble..."’

Hamm also revealed that “a brief period” of therapy and antidepressants aided him through.
