Madonna to Design H&M Line
Pop icon Madonna is to design a range of clothes and accessories for Swedish fashion giant Hennes & Mauritz, which will be launched in March 2007, the company said on Thursday.
The Swedish underwear-to-suits firm has signed up a string of designers such as Karl Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney to produce one-off collections.
H&M also provided an off-stage wardrobe for Madonna, her band and dancers for her latest tour and the singer has designed a track-suit for the firm.
“The ‘M by Madonna’ fashion line will reflect Madonna’s timeless, unique and always glamorous style,” H&M said.
“Madonna has an impressive feel for fashion and trends. She was extraordinarily style conscious, passionate and was involved in even the smallest details of every design,” it added.
Analysts said the tie-up would be positive for H&M sales.
“Naturally, it is positive that they are continuing to work with Madonna,” said Stefan Stjernholm, analyst at Swedbank.
“There is going to be lots of interest for Madonna’s collection, but it will also contribute to more interest in H&M in general. Their sales ought definitely to be influenced.”
A second analyst said Madonna would give H&M “very welcome publicity and help sales.”
Shares in H&M were up 0.6 percent at 322 crowns at 0845 GMT against a flat Stockholm index.-reuters

The stars of cult sitcom Friends are secretly plotting a one-off comeback - for a possible Thanksgiving catch-up episode. David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry and Courteney Cox have all had varying degrees of success since the show ended in 2004, but now Cox and Aniston have started talking about a return to the sitcom’s coffee shop Central Perk - even if it’s just the two of them.
Speaking on last night’s Access Hollywood news show, Cox revealed she and Aniston “talk about it because we love each other and we hang out all the time,” but she urged interviewer Billy Bush not to “make a big deal out of it.” The actress says, “I’m just saying I’m not opposed to it. Jennifer said she’s not opposed to it. When we say reunion’(I mean) do a little Thanksgiving episode, sure, why not? What are we all doing? It sounds (like) fun.” Cox accepts the idea of getting all six Friends stars together again might prove difficult. She adds, “It’s a lot of different people to get into the room… so the chances of it happening is so slim. But would Jennifer and I? Sure, we’ll eat some turkey together.” -
