This in: after several years of marriage, Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have decided to separate, a rep for the actors announced on Monday.

The timing of the announcement is very interesting!!

Most of the celebrity weeklies in the U.S. close the magazines on Monday and they "comment call" that day as well.

The couple's rep probably annouced the split as a preemptive strike against what will come out in the mags later this week.

Lets just say.....we had been hearing very loud chatter about Ryan's behavior in Texas, where he's been shooting a new film.

And, another one bites the dust!

Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have separated after seven years of marriage!!!!

From TMZ:

'The couple's rep released a statement to TMZ Monday morning that says: "We are saddened to announce that Reese & Ryan have decided to formally separate. They remain committed to their family and we ask that you please respect their privacy and the safety of their children at this time."'
Reese has already enlisted divorce lawyer to the stars, lawyer Robert Kaufman, of Pitt/Aniston divorce fame.

No word on why they're headed for splitsville but perhaps Ryan's over overcompensation for Reese's win at last year's Academy Awards was a sign of an underlying jealousy.

Now let's see what an ugly Hollywood divorce will do for Reese's all too perfect I'm-just-a-girl-from-the-south image.
