Le 49e gala de remise des prix Grammy aura lieu dimanche soir prochain, le 11 février au Staples Center de Los Angeles et sera télédiffusé en haute définition et son Dolby Surround 5.1© sur les ondes de CBS, dès 20h.

Attribués par des représentants de l’industrie, ces prix seront remis à des chansons parues entre le 1er octobre 2005 et le 30 septembre 2006.

Parmi les artistes qui se produiront en direct lors de ce gala, mentionnons: Shakira, Wyclef Jean, Chris Brown, Lionel Richie, Smokey Robinson, Rascal Flatts, Christina Aguilera, Beyoncé, Mary J. Blige, les Dixie Chicks, Gnarls Barkley, John Legend, Ludacris, John Mayer, Corinne Bailey Rae, les Red Hot Chili Peppers, Justin Timberlake (en solo ainsi qu’avec le gagnant du concours My GRAMMY Moment), The Police, et Carrie Underwood.
Parmi les présentateurs de la soirée, on retrouvera notamment Joan Baez, les Black Eyed Peas, Ciara, Nelly Furtado, Terrence Howard, Samuel L. Jackson, Pink, Rihanna, Chris Rock, Stevie Wonder, Natasha Bedingfield, Tony Bennett, Lewis Black, Nicolas Cage, Ornette Coleman, LeAnn Rimes, Nicole Scherzinger (des Pussycat Dolls), Seal, et David Spade.

Certains artistes seront par ailleurs à surveiller lors de ce gala puisqu’ils pourraient remporter d’importants prix, comme par exemple les Red Hot Chili Peppers, les vieux routiers du rock alternatif dont la carrière a — déjà! — dépassée le quart de siècle. Avec leur Stadium Arcadium et la chanson Dani California, Kiedis, Flea, Smith et Frusciante sont en nomination dans six catégories: album de l’année, meilleur album rock, meilleure chanson rock, meilleure performance rock par un groupe et meilleur vidéoclip et meilleur présentation pour l’édition limitée de leur album.





La diva hip hop-R&B Mary J. Blige est en nomination dans huit catégories tandis que le nouveau venu de la scène hip hop, avec son style vocal et ses musiques hors de l’ordinaire, Lupe Fiasco, récolte trois nominations.

L’incontournable réalisateur Rick Rubin récolte lui aussi 5 nominations dont réalisateur de l’année et album de l’année, et ça n’est pas surprenant: trois des cinq albums en nomination dans cette dernière catégorie on été réalisés par l’homme aux multiples talents, lui qui a travaillé aussi bien avec Neil Younge que les Red Hot Chili Peppers que Johnny Cash que les Beastie Boys!

Difficile de ne pas souhaiter aussi que Tom Petty remporte un pris, lui qui est en nomination dans les catégories meilleur album rock et meilleure performance rock vocal en solo pour son magnifique album Highway Companion.

Idem pour la nouvelle venue britannique Corinne Bailey Rae qui a connu un franc succès aux États-Unis avec son premier album néo-soul teinté à la fois de Sarah Vaughn et de Billie Holiday. Le magazine Rolling Stone prédit qu’elle se méritera le trophée de découverte de l’année.

La question se pose toutefois dans le cas de Gnarls Barkley, l’effort de collboration entre Cee-Lo Green et Danger Mouse qui nous a donné sans contredit le plus gros hit de 2006, Crazy. Le succès commercial de la pièce sera-t-il garant d’un succès d’estime de l’industrie pour l’album St. Elsewhere qui est tout aussi génial qu’éclectique et déstabilisant, avec, entre autres, une chanson sur la nécrophilie...

Autre phénomène britannique de 2006, les jeunes rockeurs Arctic Monkeys qui sont en nomination pour album alternatif de l’année. On s’attend à ce qu’ils l’emportent dans cette catégorie, mais la compétition sera féroce alors qu’ils affrontent The Flaming Lips, Gnarls Barkley, Yeah Yeah Yeahs et Thom Yorke.

Mais quoi qu’il en soit, le gala nous réserve sans aucun doute des surprises et des déceptions, comme à chaque année!
